The Curriculum Department at Painesville City Local Schools will host COSI on Wheels for Maple, Chestnut, and Elm Elementary Schools thanks to a generous donation from the PCLS Educational Foundation. The programs will be held on 8/28 at Maple, 8/29 at Elm, and 8/30 at Chestnut. COSI’s Energy! Is designed to introduce students to the science of energy. The program consists of a 45 minute interactive assembly followed by exciting hands-on activities that engage the students and encourage the development of science process skills. The students will be introduced to concepts such as kinetic energy, energy transfer, contact and non-contract forces, chain reactions, and circuits.
Tony Gagliardi, President of the PCLS Educational Foundation, said “The Painesville City Schools Educational Foundation gives grants each year to fund challenging, innovative academic projects for students in the Painesville City Local Schools. COSI is one of these projects that meets all of our requirements and will touch every elementary student in the Painesville School System.”
The district will need approximately 15 to 20 volunteers to help with the program(s). Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and able to attend the orientation the morning of the event. No science background is necessary, only enthusiasm and energy for a great day. All interested volunteers may contact Wendy Camper, Director of Teaching & Learning, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 440-392-5068.
